Westley Richards 1869 Improved Martini Falling Block Single Shot Carbine, #1701, .450 1-1/2" case cal., 22" round barrel, blued finish, hardwood stock set, inverted-"V" front sight, adjustable folding leaf rear sight with "V"-notched groove, graduated to 800 yards. Includes steel cleaning rod and a brass cleaning tip is in the buttstock trap. Left side of the receiver is marked "MANUFACTURED BY WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO./LIMITED/BIRMINGHAM" with "WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT" on the right side. Top of the barrel is marked "HENRYS PATENT RIFLING". Barrel knox form is marked "CARBINE/1 1/2 CASE" with "52", Proof and View stamps on the left side. There is a Westley Richards Triangle stamp on top of the chamber. Condition overall is good, retaining approx. 35%-40% thinning and toning blue. Wood is very good as lightly sanded, showing added finish applied over old handling marks and scratches. Action operates smoothly, but the breech lever is bent a little to the right side. Bore with very good Henry style rifling. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
