Cal. 30-06. S# B2233. Bbl. 22". Barrel is marked around chamber area "J.A. / 30-06" and encircled "dagger". Numbers match on barrel and barrel extension. Other numbers rarely match on Johnson rifles as they were not matched at time of manufacture. The Johnson semi-auto rifle was developed just prior to WWII by Melvin Johnson and was submitted to be adopted in place of the M1 Garand. This did not happen, but Johnson secured a large contract with the Dutch government, who wanted the rifles for service in the East Indies. Some were delivered there, but the majority were taken-up by the U.S. government. Adjustable aperture rear sight graduated to 1,000 meters. Blade rear sight with protective ears. Receiver markings include "JOHNSON AUTOMATICS / MODEL OF 1941 / MADE IN PROVIDENCE RI U.S.A. / CAL. 30-06 SEMI-AUTO". The right rear of the receiver has the Cranston Arms company inverted triangle and the five-pointed Dutch acceptance star. Bayonet lug is present on barrel. Walnut stock set. Buttstock has the later added cheeks behind the magazine. Checkered steel buttplate. CONDITION: stock set has pleasing lightly worn arsenal rework finish with scattered small handling marks. Metal retains 80% of its original parkerized finish with light wear and handling marks. Very good shiny bore with sharp lands. (26-80/RW). CURIO. $5,000-8,000.
