MILITARY RIFLE WITH BATTLE DAMAGE. Cal. 7.7 JAP. S# 41515. Serial number matches on receiver and upper band. Bbl. 25 1/2". Receiver has crisp 'Mum and "TYPE 99" markings. Left side carries the Nagoya Arsenal markings. Rifle has a fragmentation strike in the right front of the grip and what appears to be a bullet strike directly on top of barrel ahead of upper band. Bullet strike has notable circular appearance. Replacement bolt with checkered notched safety knob. Numbers match on bolt handle, safety knob and extractor. Non-matching metal dust cover. Ladder aperture rear sight graduated to 1,500 meters with anti-aircraft wings. Lower band with open top carries the monopod. Three screw upper band. 23 3/4" cleaning rod. Hardwood stock set features full length handguard. Small recoil bolt. Two screw butt swivel and cup type buttplate. CONDITION: stock set has the wear, dents, scratches and staining expected from long hard service. Bullet strike is evident when viewed from muzzle. Metal is worn, turning gray and patina with areas of original blue, except bore which is shiny. PROVENANCE: Military Museum Collection of Shooters Outpost, Hooksett NH.(26-2573/RW). CURIO. $800-1,200.
