WWII GERMAN KNIGHTS CROSS OF THE IRON CROSS.
A wonderful original WWII German Knights Cross of the Iron Cross in its original black velvet-lined issue case that is covered in thin black patterned leather. The case measures 6" x 3 1/4" and the inner lid has a cream colored silk pad. The cross itself has a black center with a silver border, ring, and loop. The reverse is marked " 800 " just below the ring. The elongated oval silver loop is marked " 65 " and " 800 ", indicating manufacture by Klein & Quenzer of Idar-Oberstein, just east of Luxembourg. A nearly 16" length of neck size ribbon is folded at the top of the case. CONDITION: medal and ribbon show nearly no wear and are in superior condition. The case shows significant storage wear, and the hinged spine is broken but complete and likely repairable. Truly a magnificent example worthy of the most advanced collection. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of John "Jack" Dhooghe. (02-25578-1/BF). NON-GUN. $8,000-12,000.
