WWI Unit Marked 1914 Erfurt Artillery Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol, #2552, 9mm cal., 8" barrel, rust blue finish, straw colored small parts, inverted-V front sight, adjustable rear sight with small V-notched groove graduated to 800 meters, with stock lug. Includes one nickel plated magazine with wood base. Magazine body is unmarked; base is numbered with what looks like "2988i +". Pistol is marked "(Crown)/ERFURT" on toggle link, with "1914" date on top of the chamber. Right side of receiver with three "crowned" gothic letters and Imperial firing proof. Right side of rear sight base also with firing proof; left side with "(Crown)/RG" Imperial rework proof mark. Matching visible numbers, including the back of each grip and the firing pin. There are crowned gothic letter proofs visible throughout. Front grip strap is unit marked "127.R.11.18". Pistol is in good condition overall. Metal displays a mottled combination of thinning and toning original blue finish mixed with brown patina. There is scattered moderate frosting and some salt and pepper blemishes to the metal; freckles of patina and oxidation along the barrel. Factory lettering and proof marks are legible. Straw colored parts are now primarily silver, with spots of mild darkening. Grips show age and wear that is consistent with the rest of the pistol, including a few shallow impressions and flattening of the checkering. Action and hold open function properly. Bore is primarily bright with a little mild frosting in parts of the grooves; rifling is good. Magazine body shows mild yellowish toning; base with intermittent light marks. An honest, untouched example. Est.$1,600-2,200. (C&R/PPT)
