UPGRADED LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). S# 14704. Bbl. 26" octagon, 2" longer than standard. Globe front sight with sporting rear sight. Full length mag. Action has mortise D dust cover with 5/8" fine checkered impressed oval thumbprint. Single set trigger. Lower tang has Second Model lever latch. Forearm and straight grip stock of fancy walnut featuring checkering and crescent steel trapdoor buttplate. Left inside of lower tang has "XXX" wood grade marking followed by assembly # "484". Top tang channel of stock has matching assembly # "484". Action has aftermarket foliate scroll hand engraving with punch dot backgrounds. Left side of receiver vignette features a running whitetail deer. Sideplate has an unmarked banner. Breech end of bbl. has an added "One of One Thousand" marking. Both the breech and muzzle ends of the bbl. have single platinum bands with highlights of scroll engraving. Lower tang is renumbered to match the 1 of 1000 letter. Toeline of stock has a tack attached circular brass oval plate over added wood filler from an earlier inlay. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Cody Firearms Museum letter stating: "Type: Rifle/ Barrel Type: Octagon/ Barrel Length: 26 inches/ Trigger: Set/ XXX stock, checkered/ Swivels/ Sights: Peep and Globe/ Casehardened/ 1 of 1000/ Received in warehuse on January 12, 1876/ Shipped from warehouse on January 14, 1876, Order number 5118". CONDITION: bbl. and mag. tube retain 90% lightly faded blue showing edge wear and spotted freckling. Action, buttplate, and forearm cap have 90% added case colors showing light edge and carry wear. Gold finishED trigger shows light edge wear. Trigger is not adjusted properly to work in set mode. Hammer has weak spring tension. Stocks have lightly worn finish and checkering showing scratches and marks. Bore retains strong rifling. (01-26432/DS). ANTIQUE. $5,000-10,000.
