SINGLE SHOT MUSKET. Cal. 22 LR. S# 111826. Bbl. 28". Model 1885 "Winder" ("Winder" being an informal name in honor of Colonel C.B. Winder) single shot musket chambered in .22 LR mfg. by Winchester in 1919. Left side of the rnd. bbl. is marked with Winchester's mfg. and patent information, with "22 LONG R." marked towards the breech. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the lever, which exhibits a case colored finish. Bbl. bands exhibit a reapplied blue finish. 2-band fastened plain wood forearm features a blued steel nose cap, with a plain wood straight grip stock and plain steel musket buttplate. Toeline of stock and underside of bbl. bands feature sling swivels. Lyman No. 5 combination globe and natural white bead front sight with a Lyman No.2 tang sight. Top of the bbl. is drilled and tapped with 2 plug screws towards the breech. Complete with a steel cleaning rod. CONDITION: receiver retains large amounts of its original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of flaking and light surface oxidation overall. Bbl. retains the majority of its original factory blue finish, showing some light wear, as well as some scattered superficial handling marks and small spots of light surface oxidation. Bbl. bands retain the vast majority of their reapplied blue finish. Buttplate has mostly faded to a brown patina, exhibiting scattered spots and patches of light to mild surface oxidation and pitting. Lever retains traces of case coloring in protected areas, with the balance having faded to a gray/brown patina. Bore is bright, exhibiting some scattered spots/patches of mild to moderate pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows scattered marks, impressions, and chips, with the right rear portion of the handguard exhibiting some gouging. PROVENANCE: Estate of Bernard L.A. Ayotte. (25-7015/MLW).
