PISTOL WITH CASE. Cal. 38. S# 1183. Bbl. 2 1/2". Williamson's patent single shot sliding bbl. derringer pistol. Left side of the bbl. is marked "WILLIAMSON'S PAT.OCT,2.1866 NEW YORK" with a feathered arrow engraved across the top flat. Brass frame exhibits scroll engraving along the top and sides, terminating in a sunburst motif at the nose. Underside of trigger guard bow features matching pattern engraving, with additional engraving present on the forward tang. 1-piece checkered wood stock. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: wood case featuring a green felt lining, containing 2 auxiliary chambers, 1 likely being of contemporary production. CONDITION: iron components exhibit a mottled gray patina, with consistent light pitting and some small spots of mild pitting. Brass frame and trigger guard have acquired a pleasing mellow patina. Bore exhibits scattered spots/patches of dark surface oxidation, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. 1 auxiliary chamber is poorly fit, not locking properly, and pushing the bbl. forward when the hammer is dropped. Stock shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with a crack stemming from the nose on the left, and a large crack running through the wrist, also on the left. Wood case is good, showing scattered superficial marks from handling and storage. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Norm Greenberg Collection. (01-27653/MLW). ANTIQUE. $400-600.
