Cal. 30-06. S# 00657. Bbl. 26" sporter weight without provision for iron sights; made by E. R. Shaw with "76" in a liberty bell on left side below stock line. Mfg. 1976-1979 by SSS Development Co. Inc. of Wickiffe, OH. Internet research has an abundance of Wicliffe 76 information (and disinformation) about this quality built and accurate firearm; Elmer Keith stated it was the most accurate "out of the box" single shot rifle he had ever fired. Original advertising guaranteed 1" or better at 100 yards. Most were in heavier calibers with 26" barrels like this one. All had plum hued receivers, jeweled breech blocks and stock sets by Bishop (this one has a Bishop checkered black plastic buttplate) or Fajen. Most stock sets were of noticeable figure as is this one. Uncheckered stock set of gloss finish having Monte Carlo buttstock with raised cheekpiece and decorative chromed grip cap (banner area for engraving); classic styled forend. One internet account states the company was funded by an investor who needed a losing tax write off and when the company became a solid success, he closed the doors after about 2,500 units produced. The company sold barreled actions and at the end they sold action kits. The sides of the receiver are blank as common for the "Standard" model. Barrel is fitted with Burris scope bases and sculptured 1" scope rings having single top screws holding matte finished Vortex Crossfire II scope with 4 post reticle with windage and lower elevation hold over marks; 6-18X44 with adjustable objective. Another similar Wickliffe 76 in this auction; cal. 223 Rem. CONDITION: all aspects near excellent including bore and scope set. (25-5610/NW). MODERN. $750-1,000.
