RIFLE. Cal. 450/400 3-1/4" Nitro Express. S# 67888 (1926). The 28" dovetailed barrels are fitted with full length matted rib; central portion is dipped to form front sight ramp. One standing two folding leaf express rear sight with platinum lines is marked for 100, 200 & 300 yards. Silver bead front is longitudinally dovetailed into front base. Unmatted portion of rib is engraved "W. W. Greener Maker. 29 Pall Mall London. S.W." Tops of barrels are engraved "Ammt 450/400 3 1/4" Case" "60 Gr. Cordite. 400 Gr. Bullet." Barrel flats are stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs for the same load. Bottoms of barrels are stamped with Greener elephant trademarks, serial numbers, and "1.16" (rifling twist ?). Case hardened Greener "Facile Princeps" boxlock type action is reinforced on side panels and features typical Greener side safety, cross bolt third fastener, bushed strikers and double triggers. Action is engraved with about 70% coverage well cut and shaded scroll. Action is very neatly filed in "best" manner. Blued trigger guard with scroll on bow is engraved with S# and grade "RFHT 60" (Treble Wedge Fast, Facile Princeps, forend ejector, available in any caliber) on tang which extends to horn grip cap. Pistol grip buttstock made of lightly figured and streaked European walnut measures 14-3/4" over special machine engraved steel buttplate. Point pattern checkering is at grip and a sling eye matching that on barrel along with a vacant silver oval is on toeline. Matching splinter ejector forend with schnabled horn tip has Deeley release. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: pair of snap caps in plastic bag attached to tag. CONDITION: good original "as found". Barrels retain 50-60% original blue; considerably browned and worn on sides with scattered light uncleaned oxidation. Action retains about half of its case hardening color which is quite strong where protected. Traces of blue remain on trigger guard. Stocks retain most of their original finish with some darkening due to oil soaking. Checkering is moderately worn; especially on forend. Bores are fine to very fine; shiny with strong rifling throughout, some evidence of slight erosion in front of chamber, right barrel. Action is tight; barrels are on face. Mechanically fine; ejectors in time. A good solid rifle in a great all around caliber. (26-2003/MGM). CURIO. $10,000-15,000.
