AMERICAN EAGLE LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOLS. 1) Cal. 9x19mm. S# 1041u. Bbl. 6" (importer / retailer installed). As summarized from pages of 759 and 760 of "The Borchardt & Luger Automatic Pistols" by Joamchim Gortz and Dr. Geoffrey Sturgess, approx. 150 Luger pistols with "SAFE" / "LOADED" markings, the Great Seal of the United States and Stoeger's 2-line address are noted between the S# blocks of 774xt-782xt, 100xu-105xu, and 870xu-873xu. Both of these examples, falling within the appropriate noted S# range of 100xu-105xu. The bbl. extension is marked with the Great Seal of the United States over the top of the chamber, with "A.F. STOEGER INC/ NEW YORK." marked on the right. The left side of the frame is appropriately marked "SAFE" in the upper position, with "GERMANY" stamped on the front of the frame between the S# and S# suffix. Toggle is marked with the intertwined DWM monogram. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, with the bbl. extension and breechblock exhibiting a reapplied blue finish, and with some small parts exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight with fixed rear sight modified into a U-notch configuration. Matching numbers are present on the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, and trigger, with remaining parts being unnumbered or mismatched. Replacement breechblock assembly with "GELADEN" marked extractor. MAGS: x1 plated 8-rd. with aluminum plug marked "MADE IN GERMANY" above a vertically stamped "7,65", which is partially obscured by an unidentified circular hole, which appears to have been partially filled with black painted. CONDITION: frame retains large amounts of its blue finish, showing patches and areas of wear and thinning that are fading to gray and brown patinas. Bbl. has largely faded to a mottled brown patina. Bbl. extension retains the majority of its reapplied blue finish, with the right side turning to a plum coloration. Near mirror bore, exhibiting scattered spots of light pitting and a shallow bulge towards the muzzle, while retaining good, albeit shallow rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show mild smoothing, as well as some superficial marks and impressions (most notably on left panel) from handling and storage, with the left panel exhibiting a small chip in the usual area, to the right of the safety lever. (26-1142/MLW). 2) Cal. 30 Luger. S# 1040u. Bbl. 6". American Eagle Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. by DWM and imported / retailed by Stoeger. Top of the bbl. extension is marked with the Great Seal of the United States, with "GERMANY", followed by "A.F. STOEGER INC/ NEW YORK." marked on the right. Left side of the frame is marked "SAFE" in the upper position. Front of frame is stamped "GERMANY" between the S# and S# suffix. Extractor is marked "GELADEN". Toggle is marked with the intertwined DWM monogram logo. Metal components exhibit a (possibly reapplied) blue finish overall, save for on some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, mag. release button, safety lever, as well as the ejector, which exhibit an apparent enhanced straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, as well as the rear toggle link. Likely importer / retailer installed bbl. matches the frame via "40". Hold-open latch appears to be a replacement. MAGS: x1 plated 8-rd. with unmarked concentric circle wood plug. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: brown leather holster marked with the A.F. Stoeger logo on the rear of the belt loop. Additionally, this example is accompanied by an original No. 25 Stoeger arms and ammunition sales catalog. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their blue finish, exhibiting some scattered spots and patches of light to mild wear and thinning that is fading to gray and brown patinas, with some scattere3d superficial handling marks present overall. Bbl. has largely faded to brown patina. Strawed parts are very good, showing some light wear and thinning. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some light to mild smoothing, as well as a few superficial handling marks, but otherwise remain sound. Holster remains malleable, showing some scattered superficial handling marks, light age related cracking, and light crazing overall. Closure flap's leather "hinge" shows a small tear on one side. Pull strap is absent. Rear of holster shows several holes from a prior stitching arrangement. Catalog is good, showing general overall wear, with some creasing and minor stains. Pages exhibit appropriate age related yellowing. A virtually unheard of offering of a consecutive pair of Stoeger American Eagle Lugers. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of John Eckert. (26-1143/MLW). BOTH CURIO. $3,500-5,500.
