MC-1 SNIPER RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 3370565. 24" bbl marked on right side "1-S-A-6-43". Throat gauges 5.0. Muzzle gauges 1.0. These rifles were adopted by the Marine Corp during the Korean War following their search for a better telescopic sight than that issued with the M1C sniper rifle. The scope adopted was the 4x Stith-Kollmorgen Bear Cub having a fine crosshair reticle. The scope is correctly marked on top with "MC 509-P". The scope with its slightly glossy black finish and finger adjusted turrets is marked on the ocular lens "4X DOUBLE STITH MOUNTS S.A., TEX. / KOLLMORGEN OPTICAL CORP, BROOKLYN, N.Y. PAT. PEND". Scope is equipped with Storm Queen lens caps. The parkerized 1" scope mount is vertically split and has the later triangular locking levers. The scope base attached to the left side of the receiver with 3 allen head screws and 2 alignment pins is numbered "3531142". Rifle with its correct serial number range has a T105E1 aperture rear sight. Blade front sight with protective ears. All major parts markings are "SA". Walnut stock set. Replacement buttstock marked only with encircled "P" proof under grip. Buttstock is equipped with period unmarked brown leather cheek pad with rawhide lacing. Cheek pad attached with brass screws. Walnut handguards have notably better appearance than the buttstock and are likely later replacements. "1944" dated MILSCO leather sling. CONDITION: scope has moderately worn finish with notably more wear on the turret knobs and on the right side of the tube. Optics appear clear and serviceable. Rifle buttstock has added finish over moderate wear and handling marks. Handguards show light wear and scattered tiny handling marks. Metal finish on rifle is a lightly worn original parkerized finish. Shiny bore with moderately worn lands. PROVENANCE: Military Museum Collection of Shooters Outpost, Hooksett NH. (26-2316/RW). CURIO. $2,500-3,500.
