- Model designation is not marked on the firearm. Approximately 170,101 were made by Winchester between 1867 and 1898 (the 1875 Winchester catalog indicates that production ceased in 1875, factory records indicate that small lots were produced until August of 1898).
Model 1866 was the successor to the Henry model 1860 rifle.
Features include: magazine tube that is loaded through a gate on the right side of the receiver/frame; a half length forward handguard with a barrel band; round or octagonal barrel; brass receiver/frame (this led to the model being referred to as the 'Yellowboy") and a straight grip stock; crescent buttplate with an brass sliding cover over a cleaning rod storage compartment.
Some changes in features and production took place in the early years of manufacture.
Also produced as a model 1866 Musket with a 27"(686MM) barrel.
1891, Winchester made a special order of 1,020 units for a company in Brazil in calibre 44 HENRY CF.
Models produced in 44 HENRY RF calibre and under serial number 169016 were manufactured before 1898.

Wood stock shows scratches, scuffs, dents, chips in rear stock; condition is good for age. Front barrel/magazine tube band screw is missing.
Metal finish shows scratches and scuffs, magazine tube falls out as the pin to hold it is missing as well as internal components light follower and spring, possible other parts might be missing, light dents, patina, lots of pitting can be seen in internal and some external areas; condition is less than fair for age.
Bore is dark grey with lots of heavy pitting; condition is poor.
