2ND MODEL SLIDE ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 22 Short. S# 53849. Mfg 1897. Case hardened Model 1890s in high condition are very desirable as blued finish became the standard beginning in 1901. Bbl. is 24" oct with sporting sights. Case hardened takedown receiver and hammer. Blued bbl, mag tube & bolt. 12-groove walnut slide handle and straight grip. Stock with crescent steel buttplate. Upper tang marked "WINCHESTER / - MODEL 1890 -". Top bbl flat stamped with two line Winchester address & "22 SHORT". CONDITION: fine overall. Receiver retains 80% bright original case colors with silvering to upper and lower tang. Action shows scattered mild freckling. Blued metal parts retain 85% original finish with high edge, muzzle and slide wear. Bolt has small area of light scratches. Stock set shows lightly worn original finish with scattered light scratches and dents. Bore is generally bright with good rifling and the appearance of mild leading.
