PERCUSSION REVOLVER WITH ACCESSORIES. Cal. 31. S# 250964. Mfg. 1864. The Colt 1849 production began in 1850 and continued through 1873. This example is fitted with a 5" bbl with the "ADDRESS COL. SAM COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA" 1-line address. The cylinder is roll scene engraved with a fully legible stagecoach scene. The cylinder pins are intact and patent/SN markings are crisp. The frame carries the standard "COLTS/PATENT" marking. The left shoulder of the trigger guard strap is stamped "31 CAL" and the trigger guard web is marked "1". The 1-piece original Colt grips are marked with the last four of the serial number "0964" on the backstrap channel with a stamped "W" below the number. The bbl, loading lever, cyl, arbor, straps, wedge, & grips are all matching SN. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: The pistol is housed in a period compartmentalized retailers case with a tape sealed partial box of original Colt's Cartridge Works Pocket Pistol ammo, Eley Bros cap tin, Colt Patent marked brass pocket bullet mold, unmarked eagle motif pistol powder flask, & nipple wrench. CONDITION: Overall very good example. The frame and loading lever retain 75% of their original case coloring. The bbl has approx 30% of the original bluing with the balance having a grey patina. 60% of the original bluing remains on the cyl which has a very well discernable cylinder scene. The straps have only traces of the original silver plating which now only remains in the most protected of areas and has a dark aged tarnish. Some of the screws still retain some of their bright nitre blue. The grips are nice and retain much of their original Colt varnish. The bore has nice gain twist rifling with a shine and some areas of pitting. Sound mechanics. The case is good with an old crack in the lid & base, as well as, some scattered handling marks. The liner is good with some edge fraying and light staining from oil. (01-29499/ZAL) ANTIQUE $2500-3500
