ACTION SPORTING RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 1367063. Bbl. 24". Star gauged barrel marked behind front sight "SA / flaming bomb / 9-30". These fine sporting rifles were produced at Springfield Armory from 1923 to 1938 with a total production just under 5,000. They are extremely scarce and desirable when they are in their original condition. Lyman 48 aperture rear sight graduated to 135 points. Early small knobs. The sight base and slide retainer are numbered "K94". The slide is marked "K3". Sight is equipped with 5/8" disc. Blade front sight. Receiver has the tiny punch mark clearly visible in the right rail. Receiver raceways on this example were not polished bright. Bright bolt is marked "NS" on top of handle and marked "7" underneath. Cutoff is polished on underside. Walnut stock equipped with two recoil bolts and correct cup type checkered buttplate. Front swivel is carried on the barrel band. Stock has encircled "P" proof under grip. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Copy of Springfield Research stating this rifle was sold to Howard Dow Clute, Arlington, Iowa on April 15, 1932. Also accompanied by a photocopy Voucher No. 9721 to original owner Howard Dow Clute. CONDITION: stock has a very nice appearance and shows only tiny scattered handling marks over its original factory finish. Metal retains nearly all of its original arsenal blue with very light hi-point wear. Near excellent shiny bore. (26-955/RW). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
