Unusual Smith & Wesson Single Action 2nd Model Revolver, Factory Converted to Single Shot Target Pistol, #31022, .22 LR cal., 6" barrel, blue finish, checkered walnut diamond center two-piece target grips, Patridge style pinned blade front sight, adjustable square-notch rear sight, color case hardened hammer and spur trigger. Factory markings are clear. Barrel address that reads "MODEL OF 91". Mfg'd 1877-1891. Pistol is in excellent condition as factory refinished at the time of conversion. Under the grips, the frame is marked with a "(star)" ahead of the serial number and stamped "11.22" as the date of the rework. Pistol retains approx. 98%-99% finish, with only light marks. Hammer and trigger show muted color case hardened finish. Grips are in excellent condition with sharp checkering detail. Action functions well. Bore is excellent with sharp rifling. Pistol includes a Smith & Wesson factory letter, indicating the gun was originally shipped from the factory on August 28, 1878 to M.W. Robinson, New York City, NY. The letter further states that the gun left the factory as a .38 cal., 3.25" barreled revolver with blue finish and checkered black hard rubber grips. It was later returned to the factory and rebuilt as a single shot top-break target pistol in November of 1922. This is certainly an interesting and uncommon conversion. Est.: $2,000-$2,500. (Antique)
