ACCURACY DEVICE. Cal. 50 BMG. S# 3048. Bbl. 35 7/8". This very large, heavy & interesting device was used to test the accuracy of 50 caliber machine gun ammunition. Though similar to other Mann devices, this barrel is fitted w/ a bolt action single shot receiver. The receiver is faintly electro-penciled on top "SA / NO130". Firing is accomplished by a spring-loaded over center hammer. The barrel, which measures approx. 2 1/4" in diameter, has a 4 3/4" rebated section forward of the receiver measuring approx. 2" in diameter. The rebated section is electro-penciled "RIFLE, ACCURACY / CAL. .50-D-45968". The barrel is additionally marked forward of the rebate "M / JM3 / SA15323 / D35496 / SA 9-42 / 3048 / F / small circular symbol resembling sunburst". CONDITION: receiver retains 50% of its thinning flaking light gray paint except the top, which is left in the white. Bolt assembly is in the white. Handling is turning gray w/ patina. Barrel turning gray & patina, showing traces of a dark blue paint w/ wear & handling marks. Very good shiny bore w/ sharp lands. (25-6123/RW). CURIO. $2,000-4,000.
