MILITARY SCHOOL RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 369307. 24" bbl. Bbl is unmarked. According to serial number receiver was produced in 1909. These rifles were assembled by Sedgeley using discarded low number Springfield receivers. Many were sold for military school use and some were undoubtedly used for security at mfg plants. The rifle is assembled using a mix of 1903 Springfield and Model 1917 parts with the addition of some newly made alloy parts. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2850 yards. Sight ladder is alloy. Sight is fully functional. Rear sight base is marked with partially encircled "S" on the left rear. Lightening cuts are not arsenal quality. Blade front sight with protective cover. Bolt assembly with early straight down handle is unmarked. Upper and lower bands are from a Model 1917 rifle. Stacking and sling swivel bows are alloy. Alloy trap buttplate and floor plate. Walnut stock set with straight grip. Stock has faint encircled "P" proof under grip and has had a recoil bolt installed below the receiver ring. The added grasping grooves have a narrower than standard profile and show coarse milling marks. Brown leather WWI vintage Model 1907 sling. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: nickel plated oiler in butt. CONDITION: stock set has light wear with scattered handling marks throughout. Handguard is assembled in two pieces with the seam under the lower band. Cutoff recess is not arsenal quality. Steel parts are mostly blue with thinning and wear. Alloy parts were finished black are now thinning and turning gray. Bolt is still and difficult to open. Very good shiny bore.
