Cal. 54. Approx 18,000 US M1836 pistols were produced by Robert Johnson of Middletown, CT from 1836-44. The model 1836 was the last US martial pistol to be produced in flintlock and it saw a lot of service in the war with Mexico. This example has the standard 8 1/2" round smoothbore bbl with brass blade front sight, "H" sub-inspector proof, & "?B/P" partial struck proof. It has a swivel type steel ram rod. Oval rear sight on the tang. The lock is marked "U.S. / R. JOHNSON / MIDDN CONN / 1838". Iron mounts. The stock has mostly legible oval cartouches near the side plate. CONDITION: Overall good. The bbl has a lightly freckled brown/grey patina. Straps have a darker brown patina. The lockplate has been arsenal blued with thinning finish. Stock is sound with some light handling marks. Bore is dark with shallow pitting. (01-29207/ZAL) ANTIQUE $1000-1500
