WITH FOLDING BAYONET. Cal. 52 Smoothbore. NSN. Bbl. 4 5/16". Center hammer flintlock pistol of apparent British origin produced by an unknown mfg. The top flat of the tapered octagonal bbl. is marked with an apparent "ST-1342", with no other identifying marks of proofs. Sides of the frame are each engraved with a panoply of arms, surmounted by foliate vine type borders. Underside of trigger guard bow is engraved with a starburst motif. 1-piece wood grip features a finely checkered panel along the lower section of the rear grip strap and on the butt, with wire inlays present on the sides and along the upper section of the rear grip strap. Underside of bbl. features a spring loaded under-folding bayonet, released via rearward motion of the trigger guard. CONDITION: metal components have faded to a mottled gray patina, exhibiting consistent light to mild pitting, with some scattered spots of light surface oxidation. Bore exhibits consistent light to mild surface oxidation. Hammer will not cock unless trigger is manually pushed forward, with the safety plate tang having broken off, rendering the safety inoperable. Grip shows some scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sound. PROVENANCE: from the renowned collection of quality sporting arms from Lewis Drake together with inventory of Lewis Drake Associates. (01-28548/MLW). ANTIQUE. $300-400.
