SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 678s. Bbl. 3 15/16". Originally mfg. as a Model 1920 Commercial Luger, this example was subsequently acquired by the Weimar era police and fitted with a 9x19mm Parabellum bbl. The left side of the bbl. extension is marked with a Crown/N commercial nitro proof, which is repeated on the left side of the breechblock. Toggle is marked with the intertwined DWM monogram logo. Underside of the bbl. is marked with a faint Weimar era eagle proof, the S#, as well as a crowned imperial proof. Front grip strap is police unit marked "S. Mi. 255.", indicating issue to the schutzpolizei of the Minden district. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, with some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, safety lever, and ejector exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Standard dovetailed blade front sight and fixed V-notch rear sight. Frame is cut and fitted with a Schiwy sear safety and a clipped Walther mag. safety. All serialized parts are matching in the "hidden" commercial fashion, and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, bbl., and rear toggle link. Trigger appears to have been police arsenal renumbered during the period. MAGS: x1 plated 8-rd. with matching (apparent police renumbered) wood plug. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original blue finish, exhibiting some light edge wear, some patches and areas of light to mild wear and thinning, as well as some superficial handling marks overall. Grip straps show consistent moderate wear and thinning, with consistent light surface oxidation present on the rear strap, and a darker mottled brown patina present on the front strap. Strawed parts show varying degrees of wear, with worn areas fading to gray patina and exhibiting scattered spots of age related discoloration. Safety lever has been reheated at one time. Bore is relatively bright, exhibiting consistent light to mild pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some light to mild smoothing and a few superficial handling marks, but otherwise remain sound. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of John Eckert. (26-1191/MLW). CURIO. $1,200-1,800.
