GARAND SEMI-AUTO MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 22-06. S# 5863448. 24" bbl marked "SA F38536 8142 4344 9 58 T?B / CAL 22-06 SINGLE 1-12 / Defense Acceptance eagle". A limited number of Garand rifles were rebarreled for the experimental 22-06 cartridge which was tested in the late 1950s. There were both single bullet, duplex (double bullet) and triplex (triple bullet) loads. These cartridges were fabricated by "necking-down" standard 30-06 cartridge cases to accommodate a 22 caliber bullet. The single bullet cartridge fired a 50 grain bullet at approx. 3500 ft per second. These rifles are extremely scarce in private hands. Standard T105E1 rear sight. Blade front sight with protective ears. All major parts markings are "SA". Stamped trigger guard. High hump gas cylinder lock and cross slot gas cylinder lock screw. Walnut stock set. Buttstock is marked on left side with Defense Acceptance eagle, marked under grip with circle "P" proof and has white painted marking on right side of buttstock "798". Green web sling. CONDITION: stock set has very good appearance with the scattered handling marks and light wear associated with careful use. Metal retains 85% of its original parkerized finish with light wear. Very good shiny bore. PROVENANCE: Military Museum Collection of Shooters Outpost, Hooksett NH. (26-20/RW). CURIO. $6,000-10,000.
