SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 GA, 2 3/4". S# 490166. Bbl. 20 5/16". Model 11 Riot shotgun mfg. by Remington under contract for the United States military circa 1944, this example falling within the latter half of the first serial number block. The top of the bbl. is marked with Remington's 2-line mfg. and patent information, followed by a U.S. flaming ordnance bomb proof, with the cal. designation, a "CYL" choke marking, and "KMM" (44) date code marked on the left towards the breech. Left side of the receiver is marked "U.S. (FLAMING ORDNANCE BOMB), followed by "MILITARY FINISH" above the Remington trademark logo and the S#. Metal components exhibit a brushed blue "Military" finish overall, save for on the bolt assembly and carrier, which are polished in-the-white. Contemporary replacement wood forend with grasping grooves and original pistol grip buttstock with grooved mottled brown synthetic Remington buttplate. Left side of buttstock is stamped with a U.S. crossed cannons ordnance escutcheon, followed by an "FJA" (Colonel Frank J. Atwood) inspection stamp. Toeline of stock exhibits an added sling swivel, with the mag. cap having been drilled and fitted with a sling swivel. Aftermarket front sight base with natural white bead sight. Bbl. does not match, but is within the same S# block. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts to the majority of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting some mild edge wear, with scattered spots and patches of light to mild oxidative finish loss and light to mild pitting overall (primarily on the receiver). Near mirror bore, exhibiting some scattered pinprick spots of apparent light pitting, as well as some dings towards the muzzle from installation of the front sight base. Proper manual mechanics. Forend is very good, save for a repaired crack on the right side that stems from the receiver. Buttstock shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sound.
