U.S. WWI SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1903 MKI BOLT-ACTION
MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 1074041. Bbl. 24". Barrel marked behind front sight "SA / flaming bomb / 2-19 / A". The MKI rifle was manufactured at Springfield Armory to accommodate the Pedersen device. This device replaced the standard bolt in the rifle with a mechanism to fire the 30 Pedersen cartridge in a semi-auto mode, utilizing the slot in the left receiver rail as an ejection port. This rifle also retains its double sear and the modified cutoff and spindle. These parts are usually not present as many were replaced during arsenal overhauls. Ladder rear sight with volley notch graduated to 2,850 yards. Dished windage and elevation knobs. Blade front sight. Bolt with swept handle is marked on top "7" and marked underneath with punch proof. Safety is marked "S". All milled furniture including smooth trap buttplate and smooth trigger. Walnut stock set with "S" type straight grip buttstock. Stock made with two reinforcing bolts. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: nickel-plated oiler in butt. CONDITION: stock has arsenal rework type finish removing original markings and with notable loss of wood near buttplate and inletted areas. Metal retains 80% of its original parkerized finish with light wear and scratches. Very good shiny bore.
