ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 1188199. Bbl. 24". Barrel marked behind front sight "SA / flaming bomb / 1-20". The Mark I rifle, with its unique features, which include the prominent ejection port in the left rail, a modified cutoff and spindle and double sear trigger was designed for use with the Pedersen Device. The device was not used in the service and the Mark I rifles were used as standard service rifles and the unique parts replaced during overhauls leaving only the ejector port, receiver rail and cut into left side of the stock as in this particular rifle. Ladder rear sight with volley notch graduated to 2,850 yards. Blade front sight. Standard bolt with swept handle. Bolt markings are slightly obscured with magazine cutoff, trigger which are standard service type. All milled furniture including fine checkered buttplate. "S" type straight grip walnut stock set. Stock is marked with "S" in cutoff recess and has the scarce boxed "CHJ" acceptance mark on the left side. This mark was used primarily on the Mark I rifles. Stock has the correct ejection port relief cut in the left side. Vintage brown leather military type sling is unmarked. CONDITION: stock set has arsenal rework finish leaving the inspection mark somewhat faint. Stock has wear and numerous scattered handling marks. Edges are slightly softened. Metal retains 80% of its lightly worn arsenal rework parkerized finish. Bore, while shiny, has moderately worn lands. (26-2074/RW). CURIO. $800-1,200.
