60MM LIGHT MORTAR. Cal. 60mm. S# 78429. Bbl. 24". M2 60mm mortar mfg. by Firestone Tire & Rubber Company in 1945. The base cap is marked "MORTAR, 60MM. M2 NO. 78429 ORD. DEPT. INSP. FAK/ FIRESTONE T.&R. CO. 1945 11.5 LBS." followed by a U.S. flaming ordnance bomb proof. Top of the bipod assembly features a black enamel finished M4 sight, and exhibits a data plate that reads "MOUNT, MORTAR/ 60MM. M5 NO. 25845/ ORD. DEPT. U.S.A./ SUNDSTRAND M.T. CO. 1945/ INSP. A.C.R.". Right leg of bipod features a leather wrapped handle and a brown leather strap. Metal components exhibit a green painted finish overall, with several parts / components of the bipod being polished in-the-white. Mortar tube is fitted with an original OD canvas muzzle cover and is accompanied by an original base plate. Firing pin is present, but not installed. CONDITION: tube retains the majority of its green painted finish, exhibiting streaks and spots of wear around the circumference of the tube from the muzzle to the bipod mount, with some scattered spots of wear present overall. Mirror smoothbore, exhibiting a layer of grease throughout. Bipod shows scattered spots and patches of flaking, but otherwise remains sound and presents nicely. Bipod's leather fittings remain malleable and exhibit some wear and handling marks overall. Base plate shows some wear, but otherwise remains very good.
