Springfield Armory Model 1884 Trapdoor Carbine, #340571, .45-70 cal., 22" barrel blue and case hardened finish, walnut stock, blade front sight, and Model 1884 adjustable "U"-notched rear sight. Included is a leather R.I.A. saddle scabbard. Receiver has the serial number and the breech block is marked "U.S./MODEL/1873", with a bronze firing pin. Lockplate is faintly marked "(eagle)/ U.S. /SPRINGFIELD/1873". Barrel is marked "VP/(eagle)/P" with an "R" on top. Condition is good overall. Metal shows overall wear and patina, heavier on the lockplate, and the barrel appears to have been reblued, with scattered pinprick rust spots. Stock has a faint circled "P" behind the trigger plate and shows heavy overall use with cracks behind and in front of the lockplate. Action functions properly. Bore is very good with clearly defined rifling. Scabbard is for a M1899 KRAG carbine and marked "ROCKISLAND/ARSENAL/1904/H.E.K." with "F/11 CAV/37" on the opposite side. Includes one original strap. Scabbard shows heavy use and scratches with stitching opened at the bottom and a 4.5" x 1.5" leather patch repair. Est.: $700-$900. (Antique)
