Scarce Winchester Junior Rifle Corps Range Kit Wooden Case with Accessories, wooden case measures 26.75" in length, 8" in width, and 3" in depth, and is in good overall condition. Exterior shows typical weathering and wear to the edges. There are two full-length cracks spanning the length of the lid. The red Winchester marking is clearly visible. Case shows dovetailed construction with brass hardware and leather handle. Brass hardware has gone to a dark patina with age. Interior consists of bare wood partitions, configured for a takedown rifle, with original retention straps in the lid. The case includes a vintage Winchester heavy gun oil can, tube of Winchester gun grease in the original box, and nickel cleaning rod with a brass cap. Interior is in very good condition, showing age, with scrapes and soiling. Beginning in 1918, the Winchester Junior Rifle Corps (WJRC) offered young shooters not only membership in the Corps, but the option to purchase one of two range kits. Kit #1 included a Model 1902 single shot .22 takedown rifle. Kit #2 included a Model 1904 .22 takedown rifle. Each kit included a "Handsome mission-finished wood case fitted with leather handle". The wood case included the range kit of gun oil, grease, cartridge pouch, belt, targets, cartridges and additional accessories. The WJRC operated into the 1930s, including over 100,000 youth worldwide at its peak. The lot includes a copy of a Winchester advertiser explaining the WJRC plan. A rarely encountered piece that should be completed and displayed. Est.: $1,000-$2,000.
