Scarce Early High Standard Model C Semi-Automatic Pistol, #501, .22 Short cal., 6.75" lightweight barrel, blue finish, checkered hard rubber two-piece grips, serrated blade front and fixed rear sights, with one unmarked two-tone 10-round magazine. Factory markings are clear, with "MADE IN U.S.A./THE HIGH STANDARD MFG. CO./NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A./PATENTED" on the left barrel lug. Mfgd in 1936, the first year of production. Pistol is in fine overall condition, retaining approx. 88%-90% factory blue, with wear at the muzzle, spots of toning and thinning finish along the barrel. Frame and slide show high point edgewear and light marks. Checkered hard rubber grips are in fine condition and fit well. Action functions well. Bore is very good with defined rifling. Earlier production of the Model C had a separate serial number series beginning with 500 through 3,116, after which it joined the regular series. This pistol appears to be the 2nd produced, based on the serial number. Est.: $750-$1,000. (C&R)
