Scarce Commercial BSA Charger Loading Lee-Enfield (CLLE) MK I* Bolt Action Rifle, #21710, .303 British cal., 29" barrel, blue finish. Smooth hardwood stock set with barrel bands, sling swivels, volley sight at left side of the forend, and a smooth brass trapdoor buttplate (empty). Front sight is a Parker globe with post insert. Folding tangent rear sight has a small U-notched groove. Rifle features a single shot cut-off, 10-round magazine, and charging bridge. Top of the barrel knox form is marked with BSA logo. Left side of the receiver ring is marked "(crown)/BM". Right side of the action body is marked "B.S.A. Co." Buttplate tang is marked with "sold out of service symbol". Bolt handle is numbered but does not match the rifle. Rifle is in good overall condition, retaining a significant amount of thinning and toning blue mixed with dark patina, showing general marks from age and use. Factory markings are clear. Magazine retains majority of its finish, displaying moderate patina, and a dent to the right side. Wood with numerous indentations and impressions, consistent with age and use. There are a few circular marks to the right side of the buttstock, as well as what look like a few letters or initials. There is a splice visible behind the middle band and at the front of the trigger guard. Action functions smoothly. Bore rates fair and is dark with moderate+ frosting throughout; rifling is visible but the lands and grooves are soft. Est.: $1,600-$2,200. (C&R)
