CARBINE. Cal. 52. S# 93881. Approx 60,000 NM 1863 carbines were mfg from 1863-65. It is fitted with its matching SN 22" bbl with iron block German silver blade front sight. The Lawrence patent ladder adjustable rear sight is broken leaving only the aperature visible when the ladder is in the lowered position. The forearm is attached with a single iron carbine band and screw. The walnut stock set has no visible cartouches and terminates with a smooth iron buttplate. The initials "MFS" are carved into the left side of the stock. CONDITION: metal surfaces are evenly covered with old deep pitting which obscures some of the markings. The stock set has been sanded some heavy gouges and handling marks. The dark bore has distinct lightly worn rifling with some heavy pitting. (01-29048/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,250.
