Cal. 52. S# 37511. Approx 27,000 New Model 1859 carbines were produced from 1860-63 within the SN range of 30,000-80,000. It is fitted with a 22" bbl with a raised iron block pinned iron blade front sight, Lawrence patent ladder adj rear sight, sub-inspector "F" proof & "NEW MODEL 1859" bbl marking. The forearm is held with a single iron band and screw. The lock is marked with "CSHARPS PAT/OCT 5TH 1852" & "RS LAWRENCE PAT/APRIL12TH 1859" roll stamps. The breech block with friction ridges is sub-inspector marked "S", as is, the rec. The buttstock has a partially visible inspectors cartouche on the left side, sling swivel, & "B" sub inspector marked steel iron buttplate. CONDITION: overall good. The metal is nearly void of finish with some very thin finish found in the most protected of areas and a mottled grey/brown patina on the exposed surfaces. Stock set has been lightly sanded. The top rec tang has broken at the top screw and repaired with a visible braze. Bore has some worn rifling with scattered pits. (01-29047/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
