Cal. 54. S# 4621. Mfg 1863-67 with a total of 500 mfg within the 6000-12000 SN range. The army types do not have screw holes for the retaining the leather cover that was found on Navy carbines. This is one of those examples. It has a 24" bbl with iron block front sight and Sharps patent rear sight. The rifle has been rebuilt with a mixture of components from other rifles. It has a straight grip walnut stock with sling swivel and brass buttplate. CONDITION: overall fair. Bbl has an even brown patina with some light handling marks. Arsenal reblued rec with 60% thinning and some mottled oxidation. Stock has been sanded and has a large chip at the top tang, crack in the same area and another on the opposite side. Bore is dark with sharp rifling and pitting. (01-29052/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
