SNIPER RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 3133515. 24" bbl, marked on the right side "3-S A 8 44". Throat and muzzle gauge is 3.0. The M1C sniper rifle was developed too late for service in WWII, but was used in the Korean War. This example is equipped with an early Lyman Alaskan scope which does not have the later "M" markings. The side mount is secured with 3 screws and 2 locating pins and is numbered to match S#. The mismatched movable base with scope rings is a refinished replacement. Scope is marked "All Weather" at the turrets and has the usual Lyman markings on the left side including "ALASKAN" and the S# 26638. Ocular bell is marked "2 1/2 Power". Tapered post with crosshair reticle. Rifle is equipped with locking bar rear sight. Blade front sight with protective ears. All major parts markings are "SA". Stamped trigger guard. Single slot gas cylinder lock screw. Walnut stock set. Buttstock is marked on left side with boxed "SA / GAW". Crossed cannons. Encircled "P" proof under grip. "32" rack number at end of pistol grip. Tan leather cheekpiece marked "K-LINE" with cotton laces. Screws are not present. Period green web sling. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: slotted combination tool, nickel plated oiler and plastic grease cup in butt. CONDITION: stock set has light wear over a lightly cleaned appearance with scattered small handling marks. Metal retains 70% of its original lightly worn parkerized finish. Scope has moderate wear and flecks of missing finish. Optics appear clear and serviceable. As mentioned scope mount has been buffed and reblued over pitting. Good shiny bore with lightly worn lands. (26-1892/RW). CURIO. $2,500-3,500.
