RING CARBINE. Cal. 50-70. NSN. Bbl. 22". Barrel "in the white" is unmarked. Folding ladder rear sight graduated 2,800. Rear sight ladder over receiver ring. Steel front sight base with brass blade. Breech block is marked "1870 / eagle head / U.S.". Bevelled lockplate with two-click tumbler. Lockplate is marked "1865" at tail and "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" below thumb latch and "spread wing eagle" ahead of hammer. Hammer spur has checkered enclosed in shield. Walnut stock with single barrel band retained by string. Buttplate marked "U.S." on tang. No markings are visible. CONDITION: stock has an arsenal rework type finish with extensive repaired cracks around the grip area and on the right side extending below the comb. There are notable handling marks and loss of wood at toe. Metal is cleaned returning to light patina with moderate wear throughout. Bore has strong sharp lands with frosting and very light oxidation in the grooves.
