P.08 LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL, WITH MATCHING MAGAZINE. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 4054v. Bbl. 4". 1 of only 350 P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistols mfg. by Mauser under contract for the Bangkok police. The top of the bbl. extension is marked with the 4-digit year of mfg. "1936" over the chamber, with a German double crowned "U" commercial proof (also on left side of breechblock) and the S# marked on the left. Toggle is marked with the Mauser banner logo. Rear of frame is marked with a Thai lion head within a circle proof, followed by Thai characters denoting the property # (322). Underside of frame is engraved with an Odin import mark. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, with some small parts exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Dovetailed blade front sight, with fixed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, toggles, as well as the left grip panel. Safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, firing pin, rear toggle pin, and right grip panel are unnumbered. MAGS: 1 matching 8-rd., with aluminum bottom, properly marked with a Mauser Eagle/63 proof. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning, and areas of varying degrees of pitting overall. Sides of frame (beneath the grips) exhibit heavy pitting, with a small spot of heavy pitting present on the front grip strap. Grip screws also exhibit heavy pitting, with some losses present around the edges. Strawed parts retain traces of their original finish, with the balance retaining a dark gray patina. Fair bore, exhibiting consistent mild to moderate pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show heavy smoothing, as well as scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Right grip panel is loose due to losses to the grip screw and exhibits a small crack in the bottom right corner. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (25-376/MLW). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
