M1911 LUGER SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH HOLSTER. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 1666. Bbl. 3 15/16". 1 of 10,000 P.08 pattern Luger pistols (Bulgarian designation: "M1911") mfg. by DWM under contract for Bulgaria. These pistols were ordered in two batches, with the second batch having duplicate S#s (1-5000), save for the addition of "C" suffix. This example, mfg. as part of the first batch, is marked with the intertwined DWM monogram logo over the top of the chamber, with a Rampant Lion proof marked on the right. Toggle is marked with the Bulgarian Rampant Lion crest. Left side of frame (at safety lever) and extractor are both properly marked in Cyrillic. Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, save for on some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, mag. release button, safety lever, as well as the ejector, which exhibit an apparent reheated straw finish. Mag. release button spring, trigger bar spring, and grip screws exhibit a nitre blue finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips, and features a distinctive Bulgarian lanyard ring at the bottom of the rear grip strap. Dovetailed blade front sight with fixed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching in a combination of the "hidden" commercial and "exposed" military fashions, including the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, bbl., bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, forward toggle link (interior), and rear toggle link. MAGS: x1 plated 8-rd. with unmarked wood plug. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: unmarked Bulgarian M1911 pattern brown leather holster. Bulgaria produced a variety of holsters for the M1911 Luger pistol, with many variations known to exist. Holster features 2 mag. pouches beneath the closure flap, as well as a cleaning rod provision on the right. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of what appears to be their original factory rust blue finish, exhibiting some light to mild edge wear, a few areas of light to mild wear and thinning, as well as some superficial handling marks overall. Grip straps exhibit areas of light wear and thinning, as well as consistent light pitting. Front grip strap exhibits 3 impressions towards the trigger guard, which are visible on the interior of the frame, but do not affect functionality. Strawed parts are near excellent, as reheated. Bore is bright, exhibiting consistent light pitting and some small spots of dark mild to moderate pitting along the edges of the muzzle, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some light smoothing, as well as some superficial marks and a couple of minor impressions, but otherwise remain sound. Holster remains malleable, exhibiting general overall wear, with some age related cracking and crazing. Cleaning rod provision flap and loading tool / pin punch pouches (interior of closure flap) are absent. A rare variation in and of itself, this is the first example that this cataloger has observed that retains its original finish. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of John Eckert. (26-1157/MLW). CURIO. $3,500-5,500.
