Cal. 7.63 (7.62x25mm Tokarev). S# 5432365685. Bbl. 10 1/2". Of the submachine guns of World War II, the Soviet Union's iconic PPSh-41 submachine saw extensive usage on the Eastern Front, where it proved to be especially effective in close quarters combat, particularly during the Battle of Stalingrad. During the Cold War era, the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) produced a licensed copy of the PPSh-41 under the designation "Type 50" from 1951-1953. Many of these Type 50s would be sent as aid to North Vietnamese forces. Here, North Vietnamese gunsmiths and workshops are projected to have modified approx. 10,000 Type 50s (total number modified varies between sources) to better suit the needs of soldiers in a jungle environment. This modified iteration of the Type 50, designation as the "K50M", remained mechanically identical to the PPSh-41 / Type 50, but externally reflected many changes more in-line with contemporary firearms of the period, to include a new lower assembly fitted with a MAT-49 pattern collapsible stock assembly, an AK pattern pistol grip, shortening of the bbl. and handguard, as well as the addition of an AK pattern post front sight. This example is marked "5423" above "365685" on the top of the receiver, with various small inspection proofs present on the underside the receiver and lower assembly. Aforementioned AK pattern hooded post front sight with flip-up dual aperture rear sight. Pressed resin bolt buffer pad is present. Left side sling swivel and rear of wire buttstock (MAT-49 fashion) are fitted with an apparent period unmarked brown leather sling. Bbl. is numbered "8004", with "A1382" on the bolt, an apparent (partially obscured by screw) "4740" marked on the lower assembly, as well as an apparent "018" marked on the trigger guard assembly. MAGS: x1 35-rd. mag. with an unidentified proof mark on the right side of the body towards the floorplate. CONDITION: metal components have largely faded to a mottled gray patina, exhibiting scattered spots and patches of dark surface oxidation and pitting. Receiver shows evidence of a prior plug, with heat related discoloration present on either side of the receiver at the chamber area on the exterior. Left side of the receiver exhibits a welded repair (on both the interior and exterior) at and above the mag. well. Bright bore, exhibiting small scattered spots and a few small patches of dark mild to moderate pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sound. Leather sling remains malleable, exhibiting general overall wear, with some age related cracking and crazing present overall. A rare opportunity for one to acquire one of the more unique PPSh-41 derivatives. PROVENANCE: Military Museum Collection of Shooters Outpost, Hooksett NH. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT SMG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. (03-2091/MLW). CURIO. CLASS III. $50,000-80,000.
