MODEL 1920 SUBMACHINE GUN. Cal. 7.63mm (7.63x25mm Mauser). S# 4906. Bbl. 8". In 1920, Theodor Bergmann licensed production of his MP.18 submachine to SIG in Switzerland, whom with some iterations, would produce the Bergmann Model 1920. Throughout the 1920s, Finland placed multiple orders for the Model 1920 from SIG, with this example falling within the late Finnish contract S# block of 4900-5200. Interestingly, this late contract exhibits features that are the same as that of the Thai contract, to include the font of the mag. well markings and the rear sight, which is graduated in Thai characters. The top of the mag. well is marked "BREVET BERGMANN", with the full S# "4906" marked on top of the housing above the receiver. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, with some parts, including the bbl., bbl. end cap, bolt, firing pin, and receiver end cap appearing to have been cleaned and polished in-the-white. 1-piece finger grooved pistol grip buttstock with plain steel buttplate. Dovetailed blade front sight with aforementioned Thai graduated rear sight. Toeline of buttstock and underside of receiver feature sling swivels which are fitted with a brown leather sling of Japanese origin (numerous Type 30 and Type 38 Arisakas were acquired by Finland during WWI), featuring 2 kanji characters in white paint on the rear. Perforated bbl. shroud and bbl. / shroud end cap. All serialized parts are matching and include the receiver, receiver end cap & end cap release lever, bolt carrier, receiver hinge plate, hinge screw, receiver latch, trigger guard, stock, as well as the buttplate. Buttstock is stamped with a boxed "MORRISON/ BRADFORD, MAINE" beneath the buttplate. (NOTE: Former Carl "Bill" Morrison Collection, JDJ, Lot 3019, Fall 2013) NFA registry lists "BERMANN" in the mfg. block. MAGS: x1 Finnish 50-rd. stick mag., marked with the Sako "S" within a cog insignia on the rear towards the floorplate. CONDITION: metal components retain good amounts of their blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that are fading to gray patina, scattered superficial handling marks and dings, as well as of light to mild pitting overall. Trigger guard, stock sling swivel, and buttplate exhibit scattered spots of darkened light to mild oxidation. Mirror bore, retaining well defined rifling throughout. Chamber has evidence of being rewatted likely by Bill Morrison. Proper manual mechanics. Stock exhibits numerous scattered superficial marks and small impressions from handling and storage, some minor chipping along edges, as well as 2 small circular repairs on either side of the forearm, to the rear of the receiver hinge. Sling remains malleable, exhibiting varying degrees of age related cracking and crazing, but otherwise remains sound. A rare example of a Finnish Model 1920 Bergmann submachine gun. PROVENANCE: Military Museum Collection of Shooters Outpost, Hooksett NH. NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT MG REQUIRING BATF TRANSFER BEFORE TAKING POSSESSION. FULLY TRANSFERABLE. (03-2411/MLW). CURIO. CLASS III. $14,000-20,000.
