ASSEMBLED FOR SPECIAL/INSTRUCTIONAL PURPOSES IN THE SERIAL RANGE E550-E770, MANY REPURPOSED, THIS EXAMPLE ONE OF THE LAST PISTOLS IN THAT SERIES. Cal. 30 Luger. S# E756. Rare DWM 1900 Swiss Luger, this example one of the special "Extra-Series" pistols found in the serial range E550-E770, whose purpose remains controversial, most authorities citing special presentation/shooting prize/instructional purpose, though at least a hundred were later renumbered with an "A" suffix and issued to the military. This example, "E756" has a 4 3/4 inch tapered barrel with drift adjustable front sight, Swiss Cross-in-Sunburst over the chamber, narrow trigger, safety lever with small fluted head, broad grip safety, and a late configuration grip safety, frame and magazine. Full serial number with the E prefix is on the forward frame and under the barrel. The serial number or the last two digits are under the takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, barrel extension lug, and all the usual components of the toggle train. The grip safety is unnumbered as are both of the walnut checkered, inspected grips. MAGS: x1 correct 8-rd. mag. with tinned body, fire-blued retaining pin and unmarked walnut plug with aluminum discs. CONDITION: many of the early Swiss Lugers, including the E-series guns, were routinely reworked in the Swiss arsenal. In the course of the reworking, the guns were often given upgraded features, frequently having their frames modified to accept the later design magazines with raised follower button. This gun is no exception, now with crisp 99% arsenal reworked rust blue with negligible handling marks, 95% enhanced straw. The unnumbered grip safety is of a later wider form and the crisp, unnumbered grips are arsenal replacements. Excellent original magazine. Mirror bright bore. Correct manual mechanics. A super rare and super desirable "Extra-Serie" pistol, fewer than 100 "in the wild," seldom offered for sale! PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of John Eckert. (26-2226/LMA). CURIO. $5,500-8,500.
