MODEL 8E "EXPERT" AUTO LOADING RIFLE. Cal. 35 Rem. S# 19609. Mfg 1910. The Remington Model 8 was the first successful American auto-loading rifle and was produced from 1906 until 1939 and was eventually phased out of production by the improved Model 81. This rifle features high level "E" engraving consisting of highly ornamental foliate scroll covering 50% of the receiver and breech end of the barrel. Left side of receiver shows game scene of grizzly caught in the sights of an aiming hunter amongst a wooded background. Engraving borders are a mixture of straight and wavy lines. Remington's line of expert grade firearms were meticulously crafted and hand fitted with matching serial numbers throughout. which this rifle has. Stocked with hand checkered splinter forend and round knob pistol grip buttstock of highly figured American black walnut with original Remington checkered hard rubber buttplate and blank silver oval in toeline. Sling swivels are present at bottom of barrel and forend; rear swivel missing. Barrel is 22" with raised dovetail bead front sight and elevator adjustable sporting rear. Tang sight mounted at rear of receiver. CONDITION: Metal parts retain 85-90% original blue with mild thinning at receiver, scattered light scratches and handling marks. Stock and forend have been lightly refinished with coat of hand rubbed oil added. Head of stock has small missing wood chip along both sides of the lower tang at the receiver. There is a repaired crack extending from rear of the lower tang 5" backwards at both sides. Bright shiny bore exhibits sharp rifling. (26-1858/BH) CURIO. $4,000-6,000.
