Rare Sharps-Borchardt Model 1878 Single Shot Saddle Ring Carbine, #18115, .45-70 cal., 24" barrel, blue and color case hardened finish, smooth walnut forend and straight grip stock with barrel band and checkered steel buttplate, dovetailed replacement front sight from a silver coin, and ladder rear sight. Factory markings are legible, with a crisp "Old Reliable" in script on the barrel. Mfg'd circa 1878-1881. Carbine is in good overall condition, retaining approx. 10%-15% finish; balance with dark patina, showing general marks from age and use. Receiver displays silvered color case hardened finish, toning dark, with high point edge wear, and marks from use. Wood with expected indentations and some areas of oil staining. There are two fine hairline cracks at the rear of the tang; one is 1.5" and the other .75". Action functions well. Bore is fair with light to moderate erosion; rifling is defined. Considered very scarce, with a total of only 384 saddle ring carbines produced. Est.: $2,500-$3,500. (Antique)
