Rare Colt-Sauer Royal Grade Prototype Side-By-Side Shotgun, #BB4549, 20 ga., 28-1/2" Krupp fluid steel barrels have a tapered, solid matte rib, 3" chambers, and are choked SKT/SKT. Right hand barrel is marked "Colts PT. FA. Mfg. Co. Hartford, Ct, USA". Sauer scalloped boxlock action uses two underlugs plus a Greener crossbolt for lockup, and features include a single selective mechanical trigger, automatic safety, cocking indicators, and selective ejectors. Coin finished receiver is left in the white and moderately engraved with attractive scrolls. Trigger guard, bottom tang, and opening lever are blued. Beavertail forend and pistol grip buttstock are oil finished "B" grade European walnut, with thorough hand checkering at 20 LPI, black plastic grip cap, and original black skeet style recoil pad. Stock dimensions are 14-3/8" x 1-3/4" x 2-1/2". Gun was made by Sauer & Sohn in Western Germany for Colt in 1970. Condition is near excellent with few handling marks to the wood and very little visible wear to the action, which closes very tight and functions correctly; bores are mirror bright. Gun comes complete with a short history of Colt-Sauer discussions on a possible side-by-side. The serial number of this gun is 13 digits away from the other 20 ga. royal grade; there are approximately three known 20 ga. Colt-Sauer doubles, and this is one; a very nice skeet gun indeed. From the award winning Mike Lawler Colt Shotgun Collection. Est.: $3,500-$4,000. (C&R)
