BELT AND LEATHER GOODS. Cal. 44. S# 61884. Bbl 8" octagon with blade front sight. Sept 14, 1858 dated with the 3 line New York address. Semi-circular blade front sight. Round 6 shot cylinder with safety notches. Blue finish with brass trigger guard. Low spur hammer. Frame & bbl. have "V" or "W" U.S. inspection marks. Walnut 2 pc grips. Left panel has a partially visible cartouche. Butt of right panel has hand carved initials that appear to be "VV". Approx. 122,000 mfg. 1863-1875. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 1861 dated U.S. sword. Overall length 40 3/4". Blade length 35". Brass hand guard & pommel. Leather wrapped grip is twisted wire wrapped. A cavalry saber knot is attacked to the guard. Metal scabbard is attached to 1 5/8" leather sword belt by a leather strap with buttons. Belt has a U.S eagle buckle with nickel trim. Belt holds a cap box, cartridge box, and holster for the Remington New Model Army revolver. CONDITION: bbl & frame have faded to gray/brown showing light pitting with numerous small dents on the forward portion of the frame. Cylinder & right side of frame show cleaning. Brass trigger guard is cleaning showing traces of silver plating in protected areas. Sanded & refinished grips. Action indexes and cycles properly. Lightly pitted bore retains good rifling. The sword has some light pitting on the blade. Twisted wire wrapping shows looseness. The leather goods show wear and age cracking. The shoulder strap is broken and partially missing. (01-29347/DS).
