COUNTY PERCUSSION KENTUCKY RIFLE. Cal. 42. NSN. 57" overall, 41.25" octagonal barrel signed "GF" in script initials. This was flint and converted mid-19th century with screw-in bolster conversion and long graceful "Bedford-style" hammer with exaggerated spur. Attractive curly maple full stock, engraved pierced 4-piece patch box, engraved lock & side plate, 21 silver insets including 2" eagle engraved oval on cheekpiece, double set triggers. George Fleck (1800-1880) is listed along with his brother Valentine as gunsmith in census 1850-1880, prior as blacksmith in Shirley Township. He is buried in Nebo Cemetery, Aughwick, Huntingdon County, PA. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: copy of Whisker & Yantz "GUNSMITHS OF BEDFORD, FULTON, HUNTINGDON, & SOMERSET COUNTIES" where rifle is pictured as only example of a Fleck rifle on page 90. CONDITION: very good overall, complete and original, some wood burnout around lock, brass toned to light mustard patina, mottled iron patina, mechanics functional, hammer has some play, good crisp rifled bore, original ramrod with metal tip.
