LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 22 S, L, LR. S# 402003. Barrel 24" octagon with German silver Rocky Mountain blade front sight & elevator adjustable semi buckhorn rear sight. Rifle features No. 5 engraving pattern as pictured in "Marlin Firearms" page 535 by Brophy. Right side features vignette of grizzly standing over steer surrounded by foliate scroll engraving having punch dot background. Left side vignette displays majestic stag at forefront of a woodland background. Scene is framed in double solid line circle similarly surrounded by foliate scroll and punch dot background. Hammer, lever and breech end of barrel ornamented in classic Marlin hand stamped scrolls. Blued barrel, mag tube and bolt. Case hardened frame, lever and hammer. Highly figured black walnut "F" pattern checkered forend and matching numbered pistol grip buttstock with checkered hard rubber Marlin buttplate. Conrad Ulrich was the primary engraver for the Marlin Firearms Company from 1881-1910. CONDITION: Very fine overall as period refinished. Receiver, lever and hammer retain 85% vivid case colored finish. Barrel and mag tube retain 90% professionally reapplied blue with light high edge wear and scattered light handling marks. Muzzle has been recrowned. Wood has been sanded and recheckered with added layer of high gloss varnish retaining 98% coverage. Bore is dark and leaded with intact rifling. (26-263/BH).
