SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH TROMMELMAGAZIN, MP-18 ADAPTER, DUST COVER, & ORIGINAL CANVAS POUCH. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# 6222. Bbl. 7 7/8". 1 of only approx. 23,000 LP.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol mfg. at the Erfurt arsenal in 1914, the first and only year of Erfurt LP.08 production. The bbl. extension is marked with the year of mfg. "1914" over the top of the chamber, with 3 crowned Erfurt inspector proofs, followed by an Imperial German reichsadler (repeated on right side of bbl. and left side of breechblock). Various parts exhibit Erfurt inspector proofs, with an unusual serifed "K" proof marked below the S# on the frame. Metal components exhibit a rust blue finish overall, with some small parts including the takedown lever, trigger, mag. release button, safety lever, and ejector exhibiting a straw finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered wood grips. Dovetailed fine-tune blade front sight and tangent V-notch rear sight graduated 1-8. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, takedown lever, sideplate, trigger, safety lever & bar, hold-open latch, bbl., front sight, rear sight assembly, bbl. extension, trigger bar, breechblock, extractor, firing pin, toggles, as well as the grips. MAGS: x1 matching plated 8-rd. with wood plug. Underside of plug is marked with an Erfurt inspector proof above "6229/ +" and a second inspector proof. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 32-rd. 1st pattern Trommelmagazin "snail drum" mag. mfg. by Bing. Mag. exhibits a rust blue finish, with "B/N" on either side. Matching numbers are present on the mag. and winding plate. Trommelmagazin is accompanied by an MP-18 adapter, dust cover, as well as a rare canvas pouch with black leather fittings. CONDITION: metal components retain the majority of their period arsenal blue finish, exhibiting some spots, patches, and areas of wear and thinning that are showing through to gray and brown patinas (primarily on the toggles and rear of frame), some small spots of light surface oxidation and pitting, as well as some superficial handling marks overall. Strawed parts retain large amounts of their apparent period finish, exhibiting some light to mild wear that has faded to gray patina, as well as some scattered spots of age related discoloration overall. Very bright bore, exhibiting scattered spots of very light to light pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show some mild smoothing, as well as a few scattered nicks to the diamonds, but otherwise remain sound and present nicely. Trommelmagazin is very good, showing some mild edge wear, scattered spots of light surface oxidation, as well as some superficial handling marks overall. Mag. adapter has worn to a mostly gray patina, with the dust cover exhibit mild flaking and wear. Canvas carrier appears to have been coasted in either a lacquer or hardened grease, having acquired a dark mottled brown patina. Black leather fittings have stiffened, with metal buckles exhibiting varying degrees of oxidation. Due to a low production total and attrition throughout the course of the war, this is a scarce LP.08 variant today. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of John Eckert. (26-1188/MLW). CURIO. $2,500-4,000.
