SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL WITH PROVENANCE. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# KL54308. Bbl. 4 5/8". MK.I* semi-automatic pistol mfg. in Canada by Inglis under contract for the Netherlands, and subsequently rebuilt by Fabrique Nationale. By 1950s, the Dutch required many replacement parts and components for their MK.I* pistols. Due to Inglis ceasing mfg. of the MK.I* and Canadian Forces unwillingness to part with the remaining parts they had on hand, the Dutch turned to FN. FN subsequently reworked a number of Dutch MK.I* pistols, at a minimum replacing the bbl. and other worn parts, while also reproofing each pistol. The left side of the slide is marked "MK I*" above "BROWNING-F.N. 9MM H.P." and "INGLIS CANADA". Left side of the frame and slide exhibit a Belgian "L" within a flaming ordnance bomb proof (indicating non-Belgian mfg.). Right side of the bbl. exhibits Belgian commercial proofs. Metal components exhibit a durable thick black enamel type finish overall, save for on the bbl., which exhibits a phosphate finish. Frame is mounted with 2-piece checkered black synthetic grips. Lanyard stud appears to have broken, with the ring no longer present. Thumbprint slide features a dovetailed blade front sight. The rear sight has been modified via the removal of the slide, removal of the leaf markings, and welding and/or soldering of the sight leaf to the slide. All serialized parts are matching in the "stacked" fashion, and include the frame, slide, and bbl. MAGS: 1 blued 13-rd. mag., with blued button type floorplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: notes from Charles Wagner detailing this variation, as well as an invoice from William O. Drollinger (William O. Drollinger is described as a noted American High Power Collector in Blake Stevens' book, "The Browning High Power Automatic Pistol") dated October 9th of 2000, which includes this pistol on the inventory list. CONDITION: very good to excellent, as arsenal refurbished, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their black enamel type finish, exhibiting some light to mild wear on edges, and scattered superficial handling marks overall. Mirror bore, exhibiting some spots of grease, while retaining well defined rifling throughout. Grips show some smoothing, as well as some scattered superficial marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. A very nice and attractive example of a Dutch contract Inglis MK.I* pistol, rebuilt by FN. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Charles Wagner. (25-396/MLW). CURIO. $1,500-2,000.
