PERCUSSION SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 58. Out of the production of 6500 only two contracts totaling just over 890 were of the 1st type Linder patent carbine. These variants were found with the marking on the breech block only and an unmarked lock. It had a 20" bbl that was shortened to 19.5". The patented design loaded by swiveling the rotating collar which would elevate the spring operated breech block. The block is marked with the 3-line patent marking and there is a 2 position leaf rear sight. Unmarked lock. Saddle ring is present in the 1-piece stock that has an oval inspection proof just forward of the buttplate tang. Sub-inspectors proofs are found on some of the small parts. CONDITION: overall fair. The metal has a grey patina with a coat of old protective varnish added. There are some heavy handling marks in the bbl and some pitting present. Stock is hand worn with some heavy dents and dings. There is a crack on the left side near the breech block. The cartouche is lightly worn. Bore has some wear to the rifling and pits. (01-29043/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
